Step 1: Customize Your Garage’s Size and Style

Select Building Type:

Begin by choosing “Garage” as your building type.

Choose Roof Style and Frame Size:

Select from various roof styles and frame sizes to match your preferences and budget.

Customize your garage’s color, installation surface, gauge tubing, and metal sheeting options to create a unique look.

Step 2: Choose Your Roof Style

Roof Style Options:

  • Vertical Roof: Ideal for most customers due to its strength and efficient rain and snow runoff. Necessary for garages wider than 30 feet or longer than 35 feet.
  • Standard Roof: The most economical choice, perfect for budget-conscious projects.
  • Boxed-Eave Style: Offers a more attractive appearance while maintaining similar costs to the standard roof.

Recommendation: Opt for the vertical roof if your budget allows, as it provides superior durability and weather resistance.

Step 3: Select Your Frame Size

Determine Width and Height:

Use the measurements calculated in Chapter 2 to select the appropriate width and height for your garage.

Pro Tip: Metal garages are more cost-effective when built long and narrow rather than short and wide. If possible, switch the length and width dimensions to reduce costs. For example, a 24’x35’ garage is nearly 50% cheaper than a 34’x24’ garage.

Note: If your desired dimensions aren’t available in the designer, choose the next larger size. After placing your order, inform us of your exact dimensions, and we’ll adjust them at no additional cost.

Side Height Recommendations:

  • Standard Garages: 9 feet
  • Wide, Two-Car Garages: 10 feet
  • RV Garages: Ensure the door is at least six inches taller than your RV, and the side height is two feet taller than the garage door.

Step 4: Choose Installation Surface, Certification, Gauge Tubing, and Sheeting Thickness

Installation Surface:

Select “Concrete” as the installation surface. We’ll cover more details about foundations later in this guide.

Certification and Gauge of Framing:

For areas prone to hurricanes, strong winds, or heavy snow, opt for 12-gauge tubing and upgraded certification for added strength.

Sheeting Thickness:

Choose between standard 29-gauge galvanized steel or thicker 26-gauge galvanized steel for enhanced durability.

Step 5: Customize Sides and Ends

Side and End Options:

Closed Sides and Ends: Select from horizontal, vertical, or lap siding.

Deluxe Options: Choose vertical deluxe two-tone sides and ends for a more refined look.

Open or Partially Closed: Transform your garage into a carport by selecting open or partially closed sides and ends.

Step 6: Customize Doors and Windows

Garage Doors:

Separate Doors: Opt for individual doors for each vehicle. Two smaller doors are often more affordable and easier to operate than a single double-wide door.

  • Standard Size: 9’x8’
  • Wider Trucks: 10’x8’ doors for larger vehicles with wide mirrors.
  • Two-Car Garage (20 feet wide): Use two 8’x8’ doors or a double-wide 16’x8’ door.

Oversized Vehicles: Ensure garage doors are at least six inches taller than your vehicle. For RVs, add two feet to the side height.

Automatic Doors: Our 3D designer includes manual roll-up doors. For automatic doors, consider contacting a garage door opener company or explore DIY solutions available online.

Windows:

Standard Setup: Most customers add one walk-in door and one or two windows for natural light and ventilation.

Custom Preferences: Some may prefer no windows based on their aesthetic or functional needs.

Step 7: Customize Colors

Color Selection:

Wide Range: Choose from an extensive palette for the roof, trim, sides, ends, doors, and optional two-tone coloring.

No Extra Cost: Color choices don’t affect the price, allowing you to match or complement your home’s exterior seamlessly.

Optional Matching Screws: For a cohesive look, you can have the screw colors match your garage colors for a small additional fee.
